Prom Night Schedule and Logistics

Hour-by-hour guide for a smooth and memorable prom night

The families that enjoy prom night the most are the ones who planned the schedule in advance. Here is how to structure the night.

Four to five in the afternoon: Begin getting ready. Hair, makeup, and grooming should be done before getting dressed. Getting dressed is the final step — and it should feel unhurried.

Five to six in the afternoon: Pre-prom photos at a chosen location. This is one of the most important parts of prom. Allocate a full hour for photos — with family, with the date, with the group. Do not rush this. These are the photos that last.

Six to seven in the evening: Transportation pickup. Be ready five minutes before the scheduled time. Confirm the driver has the dinner reservation address or venue address.

Seven to nine in the evening: Dinner, if included in your group's plans. Most prom groups choose a restaurant near the venue for a pre-prom dinner.

Nine in the evening to midnight or later: The prom itself. Arrive, enjoy, be present. This is the moment all the preparation was for.

After prom: Have a confirmed plan. Know where everyone is going, who is driving, and what the curfew is. After-prom plans should be discussed and confirmed with parents before prom night — not on the way home.

The golden rule of prom night logistics: confirm everything twice, and leave earlier than you think you need to.
