Small adjustments to trouser hems, sleeve length, and certain waist areas are often more straightforward than changing shoulders, armholes, jacket length, or major proportions. The garment’s construction and available seam allowance control what is practical. Have a qualified fitter assess the actual garment instead of choosing alterations from a generic checklist.

Bring the shoes, shirt, and undergarments that most closely match the event outfit. Shoe height affects trouser break, while shirt bulk and undergarment seams affect jacket and trouser comfort. If the exact pieces are unavailable, tell the fitter what will change so the assessment accounts for those differences.

The shoulder should lie smoothly without extending far past the natural edge. The chest should close without an X-shaped strain, and the sleeve should show a controlled amount of shirt cuff. The waist should shape without pulling. Check the back, lapels, and arm movement while standing and seated, not only in a still mirror pose.

Slim fit generally reduces ease through the chest, waist, and leg. Modern fit balances a cleaner line with more room than slim. Classic fit allows the most ease and a traditional silhouette. The labels are not identical across makers, so judge the actual shoulder, chest, waist, rise, and movement rather than relying on the name alone.

There is no single rule for who pays. The couple, families, or friends may coordinate those flowers depending on their plans. Discuss colors, delivery timing, pinning, and budget early with the florist and each other. Match the flowers thoughtfully to the outfits, but do not let floral coordination dictate a poor garment fit.

A white square is a dependable fallback. Keep the pocket square proportional and avoid adding several competing accent colors at once.

Choose shoes that suit the dress code, trouser color, venue, and expected walking. Black leather is versatile with black, charcoal, and many formal looks, while brown or burgundy can support selected navy or warm palettes. Break shoes in before prom, check traction, and bring them to the fitting so trouser length is assessed accurately.

Choose one lead detail, then support it with quieter pieces. If the jacket has texture or shine, keep the tie and pocket square simpler. If the tie is the statement, reduce jewelry and boutonniere complexity. Repeat a metal or color once or twice, then let the garment’s cut and fit carry the look.
